How to Use the Mobile Welding Service Price Calculator
Six quick steps give you an answer, and each number appears as its own line in the result.
- Enter the labor hours, including welding, fitting and setup time.
- Enter the hourly rate from your quote.
- Enter the materials cost for steel, wire, gas and consumables.
- Enter the round trip travel distance in miles.
- Enter the mileage rate per mile, then any other costs. Enter 0 where nothing applies.
- Press Calculate, or press Enter. The total appears first, with the step-by-step math below.

The Mobile Welding Price Formula
The price is built from four parts that every quote should list separately.
Total = (Labor hours x Hourly rate) + Materials cost + (Travel distance x Mileage rate) + Other costs.
Labor hours are the hours spent welding and setting up. Hourly rate is the charge per hour. Materials cost is steel, wire, gas and consumables. Travel distance is the round trip miles to your site. Mileage rate is the charge per mile for fuel and truck wear. Other costs cover a call out fee or a permit.
Published 2026 guides put US mobile rates at $90 to $150 per hour and a mobile minimum of $150 to $300. Small repairs often run $85 to $125 per hour plus a minimum fee, because a short job still needs the same trip and setup as a long one.

Worked Example: A Gate Repair
A gate repair takes 2.5 hours at $110 per hour, materials cost $85, the site is 30 miles round trip at $0.65 per mile, and there are no other costs. Here is what the calculator does.
- Labor = 2.5 hours x $110.00 = $275.00.
- Add materials: $275.00 + $85.00 = $360.00.
- Travel = 30 miles x $0.65 = $19.50. Add travel: $360.00 + $19.50 = $379.50.
- Other costs are $0.00, so the total is $379.50.
As a check, InvoiceFly prices a 5 hour job at $85 per hour with $300 of materials at $725, which is 5 times $85 plus $300. The same addition works for a larger job too.
What Moves the Price
Four things move the total most, as the table below shows.
| Factor | How it moves the price | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| Labor hours | Each extra hour adds one hourly rate | 1 to 4 hours for most repairs |
| Hourly rate | TIG, aluminum and stainless cost more | $90 to $150 per hour mobile |
| Materials | Thicker steel needs more material | $20 to $300 for most repairs |
| Travel distance | A longer trip adds miles | $0.65 per mile in this example |
Our worked example at $379.50 sits in the middle of the usual range for a small repair. If your estimate lands far above that, check the hours first, because one extra hour at $110 adds $110. If a quote adds a percentage for urgency or weekend work, confirm it with our percentage calculator.
Common Mobile Welding Price Mistakes
Forgetting travel is the most common mistake. A 15 minute weld still needs a truck, a generator and a round trip, which is why most mobile welders charge a minimum of $150 to $300 even for a tiny job. Enter the full round trip miles, not the one way distance, or the travel line will be half what it should be.
Comparing hourly rates alone is the second mistake. A welder at $90 an hour who takes 4 hours costs $360 in labor, while a welder at $120 an hour who takes 2.5 hours costs $300. Ask for the estimated hours as well as the rate, then compare the totals here.
Finally, plan the job inside your wider budget. Check the total with our budget calculator before you book, and ask the welder to confirm in writing what the materials and travel lines include.
Mobile Welding vs Shop Welding
A shop welder charges less per hour because the work comes to a fixed workshop with no truck or travel. Published 2026 guides put shop rates at $50 to $125 per hour, against $90 to $150 per hour for mobile work. The shop option wins when the item is small enough to carry, such as a gate panel.
Mobile welding wins when the item cannot move, such as a fence post set in concrete or a farm gate. You pay more per hour, but you save the cost and the risk of moving heavy steel. If you run a welding business yourself, our break-even calculator can show how many jobs at your rate cover your monthly costs.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a mobile welder charge per hour?
In the US, mobile welders typically charge $90 to $150 per hour in 2026. Small repairs often run $85 to $125 per hour plus a minimum fee, and TIG, aluminum and stainless cost more.
How do you calculate a mobile welding price?
Multiply the labor hours by the hourly rate, then add the materials cost, the travel cost and any other costs. Travel cost is the round trip miles times the mileage rate. With 2.5 hours at $110, $85 of materials and 30 miles at $0.65, the total is $379.50.
What is the minimum charge for a mobile welder?
Most mobile welders charge a minimum of $150 to $300, which covers 1 to 2 hours on site even for a 15 minute weld. It pays for the truck, the generator, the setup and the round trip.
Does travel cost extra for mobile welding?
Yes, travel is part of the price, charged as the round trip miles times a mileage rate, or as a flat call out fee. In the worked example, 30 miles at $0.65 per mile adds $19.50.
What should I ask a mobile welder before booking?
Ask for a written quote that lists the estimated hours, the hourly rate, the materials cost and the travel charge separately. Also ask what the minimum charge is and whether the quote includes grinding and cleanup.
